Comune di Belvedere Ostrense

Belvedere Ostrense is a small Middle Age place, born around the XII century. The origins of the name are not certain. The most probable seems to be given to the Benedictine monks that revived these areas after the damages provoked by the Goti of Alarico. The monks helped the remaining population to cultivate the fields, to rebuild their houses, abbeys and fortresses. One of these was built on the highest hill from which the name of Belvedere. In 1862 The Town Council decided to add the name of Ostrense, so to enable a better geographical collocation and to underline the near Ostra.
