Comune di Agugliano

Agugliano is situated on the top of a hill at 203 meters on the sea level at 15 Km far from Ancona, in the hinterland. The first news about Agugliano are dated 1062, when the Pope Alessandro II speaks about Ecclesia S. Mariae de Auguliano in a bull of the 26th December of that year. Castrum Agulliani, on the contrary, was mentioned in 1356, when it was first shown in the Descriptio Marchiae of the cardinal Albornoz. Nowadays the old wall perimeter can be individuated thanks to a map of the XIX century showing an irregularly polygonal trend circuit.
